Not that I think she would be Katniss but I’m olive complected and I’m white. I also have a cosmology license so I would hope I would know. Everyone seems to forget that rue is dark skinned???… to me that means she is black. Think Mediterranean when you hear “olive”, or even somewhat native.
i think for some people imaging white skined people is whats natural. i could never make katniss fit with olive skin until i saw a “trailer.”but yeah. i totally agree!
I agree. Rue is black (so is Thresh)… Plus, I don’t want to sound racist or anything but I really think Suzanne Collins thought about social and ethnic issues (even if it was unconsciously), but think about district 11… Where did they work? Farm… Does it resemble slaves? Katniss has olive skin like native Americans and who were forced to work in the mines and railroads way back? The careers from 1 and 2 are pretty white and it is more obviously stated than the others and consequently they happen to be part of the richest districts.
I don’t think Collins is gonna touch in depth any of these subjects but that really stays in the air and I hope she’ll choose to have a very diverse cast like the in the original story, rather than fade to ‘Hollywoodian’ white preference.
Since Katniss’ mother and sister are blonde/blue eyed/ fair skinned individuals, that leads me to believe that either her father was part native or of maybe a variant of Romanian decent.
Let us not forget that Katniss, her father, and gale all have blue eyes(i meant light eyes.. oops, mybad). Not too many full blooded native have blue eyes. What of Irish decent? both fair and darker complexions could be explained that way… Both me and my brother have Irish blood and could be consider (black) Irish. meaning dark hair, olive skin, and dark or light eyes… if the race depiction has become so narrow in each district i have to agree with Amanda.
Also, any “white” actress could be made to look olive toned with make up… so let’s not dismiss someone because of that. if you become to picky you might end up with someone that looks the part but can’t act at all. what would you rather sacrifice?
P.s. I might have to add a section for this kind of thing in the Forum. People might like to discuss these kinds of things.
They have gray eyes, not blue. Gray eyes are quite dark out of the ones I’ve seen. I’ve seen a Native American with green eyes, so it’s not impossible.
Olive doesn’t mean they’re Native American or what not, though, it just means they have a different color skin tone. To me, Katniss is darker than white, but not any certain race.
Yeah, they can make white actresses look darker, but why not just get someone that already is because there’s a lot of actresses with olive skin and dark hair.
Kaya is too pale to me and just doesn’t possess the edge that my Katniss has.
What made you think of Kaya Scodelario. She would not be my first, if at all, choice.
It was an idea that was emailed to me. That’s why it’s a poll, just letting someone voice their opinion.
You are right. I am sorry that I was aburpt.
Abrupt.
Oh this is awful. Why do people keep suggesting white actresses for Katniss? What happened to the Olive skin?
