Katniss Has a Southern Accent!

Suzanne Collins doesn’t have an accent, so she consciously is giving Katniss a Southern accent! This means Peeta and Gale have Southern accents as well! It also explains why she thinks the Capitol residents have strange accents, because the Capitol people don’t have this accent. Suzanne revealed in a past interview that their locations, and the fact that Katniss doesn’t know Panem’s geography, will come in to play in Mockingjay. She did also reveal that Katniss and Peeta live near the Appalachian mountains which are in the South, but this was also in an interview, not in the book. I feel like she is slowly giving away hints…except I might be looking into it too much. What do you think?

Meaning Peeta and Gale have a Southern accent too! What do you guys think!

Uhh…I really don’t think Katniss should have a Southern accent…It gives a whole Civil War-type feeling to the book. I never would’ve thought that they should have an accent. It’s weird. No offense, but I don’t think I like it. Though, I guess I could live with it.

No she doesn’t. She doesn’t have a Southern accent!
Wait, I’m Southern, never mind, lol. That means I can be a person from D12 in the movie! YAY! I want to be Prim, and Prim obviously needs a Southern accent too. Oh, and in the South, we call them “country” accents, lol.

Unlike the majority of people, I LOVE that she has a Southern accent! I don’t think it takes away from Katniss’s awesomeness(but I don’t like her anyways).

actually in the hunger games it says that they lived in a place onced known as appalacia. i dont remember what page but its in there i remember.

It does say that in the book that they live in a rea that used to Appalachia, but there are other hints that it is in the south. I would bet that they live in the Kentucky/West Virginia area. I saw this because there is always talk of coal mines and it being a poorer area. Kentucky and West Virginia have a ton of coal mines and is known to be a poorer area. I don’t say that to be mean, I am from Kentucky, it is just fact. I think it would be awesome Katniss has a southern accent. I always pictured her with one

I always see her as like “British accent” kinda girl and the Capitol people are like NYC or something. T.T heart breaking to find out the brit girl i’ve been reading about is really a southern belle

This is so cool. I might hate the capitol, but i have a capitol accent and my cousin has a Katniss accent!

I always thought of Katniss having a more northern accent. Oh, well.

I thought they geo sounded like Indiana and they all have country accents(as do I!) I didnt picture it like that but it makes sense

Wow people are so shallow. OMZ southern accents are so lame omg she should have northern one!! Oh please get over yourself. There’s nothing wrong with talking like that and it only makes sense if it’s set somewhere in like Kentucky since there’s coal mining.

it does snow in the south (Virginia, West Virginia, the Carolinas, Kentucky, hell it snows in Georgia.)

I love it and it makes sense. Coal Mining = Kentucky area. Katniss definitely has what it takes to be a southern gal, she knows how to hunt and isn’t afraid to get dirty!
