I think that its a very plausible idea! I think that he was trying to prepare her for the possibility of getting picked.There was no way of knowing that she would be a candidate unless it was all planned. I think its more possible though that he knew if something ever happened to him that he could pass on his knowledge to Katniss and she would take care of the family. It’s hard to say about Prim getting picked…. She only entered once and gale was entered many times. In that aspect I do think there is a good chance that she was drawn out on purpose.

That could be a possibility… I’ve actually wondered that myself. There seems to be a connection between her volenteering for Prim, for it shows a bit of rebellion. Another thought I’ve had is that the explosion in the mine that killed Katniss’s father was planned by the capitol. Gale even says in Catching Fire that rumors of rebellion were spreading through the mines. The mines would be a perfect place to pass secret information. The capitol could have caused the explosion, and maybe this is why Prim’s name was pulled to be a tribute, to put further grief on the family. The capitol didn’t expect her to be replaced by her sister though. It even gets deeper than this in my mind, but that would be pages of my writing to fully explain it…

Yes, it’s possible that her dad was not only training her for life, but also for the games. But mostly for life itself.
About Prim’s name in the reaping…no. It just doesn’t seem like they’d have a reason. If they wanted someone to start a rebellion, they could have chosen any number of other people.

yes. This is a conspiracy theory that I, and I know others, have had for a while. I think that her dad MIGHT not have just trained her for the games, but more so for life. But I think that her dad and the other ‘deaths’ when he died are actually a rebellion group. I think that they will find Katniss’s dad and also Gale’s in District thirteen. Katniss has always been the Mockingjay. EVERYTHING was planned. They knew she would volunteer for Prim, and Peeta might have actually volunteered to do this to protect her. Maybe his dad is also in the rebellion. I think that SC will most definitely throw something like this at us. haha.

Well I think tht her dad was either training her for the hunger games or if something did happen to him like a mine explosion *cough cough* then she would be able to hunt instead of them all starving to death. And if effie wanted her to be in the hunger games, wouldn’t she have drawn HER name instead of drawing Prims so tht it wouldn’t be as obvious since Katniss had like 20 slips in there to befi. With and Prim only had one?

this is totally possibleeee!!!!!….maybe it was all planned, the “training”. They probably even purposely picked Prim because they knew that Katniss wouldnt let her little sister go into the games. and peeta was probably part of it too, of course no one knew but the mastermines themselves. if it was all planned than D 12 was probably prepared to fight, maybe they could win this thing and peeta, katniss, and their imaginary baby(hahaha) could live happily ever after!!!

I think this is all true. I think we Katniss and Peeta will fiund d 13 and her father along with all the other killed in the mine explosion. I think Cinna, Gale, Katniss, and Effie all make it to D13. I also thinl there might be a twist like Katnis and Prim have to go into the arena and Katniss will do something like kill (or fake kill) herself to save her sister.

I think maybe he was training her for a life on the run or a life without him and how much it helped her in the games was just a lucky side effect. Like he was being rebellious so he knew at some point either they were all going to have to run or he was going to die, so he taught Katniss how to survive

This could be true. To tell the truth I think SC will make the twists harder to deal with and WAY bigger cause you have to keep in mind that this IS the third book of the triology meaning the last (so sad)
What if Katniss’ dad taught her how to hunt and ect. Then talked to Effie (or maybe a older person they had since Effie might not have been there.) about drawing prim’s name cause pretty much he’s just voulenteering a name. This way he knows that Kat will take her place and if she wins (which he belives she’s prepared for) the whole family will be safe and later on, if Prims name gets drawn, he also knows Kat won’t stand for it, so she will find a way. I also agree with the rebellion groups and that Peeta’s family was in on it, maybe thats why the mom was counting on katniss, cause she knew she was going to have to be the winner cause it was ALL planned. makes sense to me at least. (Just my opinion on this)

All of these ideas are possible, but I don’t really think Effie would do something like that. It doesn’t seem in-character for her. And, yeah, the fact that she could be a contestant in the games probably was a contributing factor to her father’s training, but I think his main concern was training her to be able to provide for Prim when he wasn’t around. People don’t live forever.
