Hunger Games Screenplay News

Now there’s momentum on the project, as well as a a bit of news: The veteran screenwriter Billy Ray has been doing a draft/polish of the script that was initially written by Collins herself.

Ray has a number of action movies under his belt, including “Flightplan” and “State of Play” (as well as “Breach” and “Shattered Glass,” both of which also saw him sitting behind the camera). But perhaps most notable is that the writer-director has been chosen as the man to adapt “24″ for the big screen. (His pitch, which has Jack Bauer running around Europe, Jason Bourne-style, was favored by Fox executives.) There’s probably not a lot of overlap between the globetrotting battle to fight violent terrorists and fighting to survive in the futuristic nation of Panem, though, now that we think of it, there are looser comparisons out there. (It’s also worth noting that “Hunger Games” comes from Scholastic, the same publisher as the Harry Potter franchise.)

To be honest, I’m excited for the news but disappointed in this journalist’s take on the HG fan base. Also, the actress choices are laughable.

I’m happy the movie is getting some legs, but I agree, those actresses are sooo not Katniss. I can see Dakota and Saoirse as Madge and Chloe as Prim, but not Katniss. Also, if you remember from a few months back, the LA Times made an article on who should play Katniss, and these are THE SAME ACTRESSES THEY PICKED. They’re definitely wanting to make this movie huge…ugh >.<
But anyway, KAYA SCODELARIO FOR KATNISS! =D
Let's hope we can get a director by September (ha that rhymed ))!!!!!!!

Wow…. That’s all I have to say to the actress choices. If they choose any of them for Katniss, I might throw myself of the bridge….

I’m not sure how Saoirse Ronan is considered a laughable choice… She’s VERY talented, multi-dimensional, and real. Truly, she’d only need to dye her hair to look like Katniss. I certainly would LOVE to see Saoirse as Katniss. Chloe, however, is a bit young and not someone I can see as any of the characters. I think Elle Fanning (yes, Dakota’s little sister.) would make a great Prim though.
